Who: The Superintendent, Jim Notter, along with his team.
What: Trying to prevent this new freshman class to drop out.
Where: High Schools in Broward County such as Pompano Beach High, Cypress Bay in Weston, Everglades in Miramar and Hallandale High.
When: This school year is hopefully just the beginning of a new way to re-invent the freshman experience.
Why: The predicted amount of freshman entering that might not graduate is a staggering 2,400 out of the 21,000 entering which is more than 10%!
How: The Superintendent, Jim Notter, wants to help smooth the transition between middle school and high school, and welcome the incoming freshman with open arms. There have been many efforts such as a full-day orientation at Pompano Beach High, and giving freshman answers to questions that upperclassmen say they wish were answered when they were freshman.
Broward Superintendent, Jim Notter is hoping to prevent new 9th graders from dropping out by re-inventing the freshman experience and making many efforts such as interactive orientations, grasping their attentions, classes that help smooth the transition from middle school and high school, and most importantly, making the freshman class feel secure in a world of upperclassmen.
